Multimedia online note taking tool. Students can capture screen images, make audio recordings for notes, or write text notes to accompany drawings. These different media can then be organized into videos!
I envision it being similar to Evernote with more interaction capabilities and with the great addition of being able to create videos of the information gathered. I like this tool!

he Smithsonian Library's 'Digital Library' contains digital publications, collections and objects including online exhibitions, webcasts, digital editions, bibliographies and fact sheets, and finding aids/inventories for collections such as our trade literature collection and artist files.
Interesting site with videos for teacher use with students. Very procedural in nature, but does include graphics/images to support development. Worth exploring for use with students. Letting students watch the videos for instruction and then discuss.
Great article by Julie Lindsey and Vicki Davis about working with students in the digital environment, the opportunities it presents for customization, and the requirements it places on teachers to monitor, develop student understanding of the process, and support students in engaging with others.
Monitor and be engaged. Using an educational network to support learning in a classroom is not the same as using a social network to connect with friends and family. We stress to our students and to the participants in our Flat Classroom projects that an educational network is a professional group of people coming together for the purpose of sharing experiences in a focused and monitored environment (see "Flat Classroom Projects"). All students and teachers should conduct themselves in a professional and culturally sensitive manner. This includes the types of avatars they choose, the styles of language they use, and the quality of material they upload.
Sometimes participants slip into a social-network mode of communicating. They may use textspeak or even inappropriate language, or they might upload pictures that are not acceptable in all global classrooms. This is where teachers must monitor in an engaged manner.
Great mathematics blog from a young Filipino mathematician, Guillermo Bautista Jr. He does a very nice job of making the mathematics accessible through digital media. He discusses a very wide variety of topics.
Interesting little article identifying how to use web 2.0 tools to achieve school improvement plan goals, but I will say it's the instructional uses and not the tools that makes these goals achievable. Without the understanding (and more importantly) buy-in from teachers to integrate the tools into the classroom SIP goals won't be achievable.
I just added all fifteen tools to my library but thought I should probably add the article where I got them all from as well. I think the article is a little overly supportive but at least the sites are interesting. I do like the premise of creating instructional routines that can be supported as paperless. I would like to see the conversation about how to create the entire routine from getting students to the site, letting them do their thing, get feedback to/from the teacher, reflect, repeat/progress... I think that is an area that teachers need help in thinking through.

Second time in a week that I've come across this site, it's growing on me. I think it has great potential for book studies/sharing.
Nice organization tool for sign ups. I think it has the potential to help teachers organize students who are signing up for activities/field trips. But will districts take electronic signatures for permission slips?

Now we are talking not only an organization tool but a creativity tool. In the process or organzing my materials, I'm creating those connections and webbing of links to where and why I post material in multiple places (3 ring binder tabs). I like it. I also like that it's drag and drop. I need to play some more with this one!
"Knowtes is a flashcard-based learning community." Students can design their own flashcards routine. I like this spin on the drill and practice idea for several reasons: I can customize how I interact with the material and MOST importantly of all I can create my own flashcards. I think the creation of the flashcards is critical for a number of reasons.
Another interesting spin on drill and practice. I see this as an interesting tool for students in a 1:1 laptop setting. It runs from your desktop so it's not functional for mobile devices (as far as I can tell).
Not sure it's the most impressive site I've seen for vocabulary instruction, but it is an alternative if you are looking. Primarily focuses on drill and practice, but using the engagement factor might help students stay with it short term.
